DAVID ACKLOM
Design & Technology Teacher
CAD - CAM Technologies
I am Solidworks accredited, and am experienced at teaching pupils CAD/CAM technologies in the classroom. I am also skilled in the use of Autodesk Fusion 360 and Google SketchUp. I am proficient in the use of a variety of CAM technologies including: 3D Printers, 3D scanner, Roland vinyl cutter, laser cutter, Boxford CNC milling machine and lathe.
I designed and taught a unit of work to teach elective Design & Technology students the basics in Solidworks, building to an intermediate level by the end of the Year 10 course. Students applied the taught skills to design and prototype Art Deco style rings. The students final designs were sent for a direct cast by a manufacturer in Stirling silver. This allowed students to realise their ideas into a industry quality product.
Other CAD/CAM projects I have created, taught and developed include: 3D Printed USB sticks, Solar Cars, Upcycling using 3D printing technology and Skateboard hardware design & prototyping.
I organised the installation of a new CAD/CAM facility on behalf of the department. It features the latest Ultimaker and Makerbot 3D printers and a 3D scanner. I have trained staff in the use of the new technologies, and have worked collaboratively to design new and innovative projects to teach these exciting technologies to our students.
